Talk to a provider about wrinkle relaxers

A licensed provider decides what is suitable for you. Send a short request and ask your questions before anything is planned.

What an injectables appointment involves

Most injectable visits follow a similar outline:

  1. A consultation about your health, medicines and what you want to discuss.
  2. A look at the area, sometimes with photos for your record.
  3. Cleaning the skin, and for some fillers, a numbing cream.
  4. The injections themselves, given with a fine needle or cannula.
  5. Aftercare instructions and, often, a follow-up visit.

Injectables are given by licensed providers where state law allows. Who may inject depends on Texas rules. The provider decides at the consultation whether to go ahead, and you can always take time to think.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and injectables

Most providers do not give wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and many will ask about plans to become pregnant. If any of these apply, say so at the start of the consultation.

Other health points a licensed provider usually considers include nerve or muscle conditions, autoimmune conditions, a history of keloid scars, active skin infections near the area, and past reactions to injectables. Injectables are given by licensed providers where state law allows, and the provider decides what is suitable for you, including the choice to wait.

The days before

Some providers give instructions for the days before a consultation where treatment might happen at the same visit. Ask the office in advance. Common topics include alcohol, supplements that can raise bruising, and strong skin care on the area.

Never stop a prescribed medicine, including a blood thinner, without talking to the person who prescribed it. Arrive with a clean face if the office asks, bring your notes, and allow enough time that you do not feel hurried. You can always choose to wait and think after hearing the provider's view.

Questions about injectables

What is the difference between wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers?

Wrinkle relaxers are a purified protein injected into specific muscles, and they act on muscle movement. Dermal fillers are gels placed under the skin in chosen areas. They are different products with different techniques. A licensed provider can explain both and decide what, if anything, is suitable for you.

Do I need to stop any medicines first?

Do not stop a prescribed medicine without talking to the person who prescribed it. Some medicines and supplements, such as blood thinners, aspirin and fish oil, can make bruising more likely, so bring a full list to the consultation. The provider weighs it and decides what is suitable.

What should I ask an injector?

Ask about their license, training and how often they inject; which product they suggest and why; possible side effects; how they handle complications; and aftercare. The questions to ask page has a longer list you can print or copy.
